Hello everyone!
This year is off to a great start in my 6th grade Personalized Learning Path and Language Arts classes! I would like to take a moment to reach out to you all for an update of what we have been working on lately, as well as, let you know that I have updated my website. I have posted important dates on the calendar, and loaded notes for both PLP and Language Arts. If your student is missing an assignment or absent they can go to Google Classroom or my website to view any notes or assignments that we have been working on. The main focuses for PLP so far are; goal setting, individual passion project, and a group STEM Challenge. Goal Setting: We started to work on setting personal goals, which are attainable by the end of the quarter. Their goal can be anything personal or academic. It should be something positive, and something they enjoy doing. Each week your student is challenged with working toward that goal, and every Friday we record our progress in our notebooks. I encourage you to talk to your student about their goal! Passion Project/Genius Hour We also started working on a “Passion Project”. Each student was able to choose a topic they are interested in. The end goal is creating a website using Google Sites through the school district. Each quarter we are focusing on a portion of building their website. This quarter we are researching our topics, and writing an article that will go on the homepage of their site. Group Challenge Project We just finished working on a STEM project. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students were placed in groups, where they decided what each member’s role will be, and what their group norms (or guidelines for success) would be. Their challenge was to design and build a table made only out of paper and tape, that was strong enough to hold a textbook. Then, they shared their design with the class. Everyone did a great job! Language Arts Focus: The first quarter in Language Arts focuses on the different types of genres. Notes and vocabulary are posted on my website, and google classroom. Vocabulary and notes should be studied often. We are also working on an independent reading assignment. Students are expected to keep a book with them to read at all times. They will create a book review about the book they have completed. The assignment is due on October 5th. Please feel free to reach out to me any time with any questions that you may have. Have a great day! Mrs. Bledsoe 6th Grade PLP and Language Arts Hi everyone!
